Our office advances faculty and student research, entrepreneurship and economic development at ASU, in Arizona, and beyond. The “knowledge enterprise” is a new model for a 21st century research university with a unique portfolio of interdisciplinary institutes and initiatives, corporate engagement programs, and support for the creation of new businesses.

The Office of Knowledge Enterprise Development facilitates collaboration among the university, industry and government. Housed at SkySong, the ASU Scottsdale Innovation Center, our team connects companies of all sizes to the vast array of resources at the university, helping industry with everything from sponsoring research and recruiting talent to finding faculty experts and licensing ASU technology.

Technology Transfer

Arizona Technology Enterprises (AzTE) is the exclusive intellectual property management and technology transfer organization for Arizona State University. AzTE works with faculty, investors and industry partners to speed the flow of innovation from research laboratory to the marketplace.


ASU’s Entrepreneurship and Innovation group accelerates high-potential startup companies by providing a range of services to faculty, staff and student entrepreneurs as well as to startups outside of ASU. Its programs and initiatives include the Edson Student Entrepreneur Initiative, the Furnace Technology Transfer Accelerator, Rapid Startup School, the Alexandria Network and AREA48.

Current Projects

The Higher Engineering Education Alliance Program (HEEAP) brings together government, academia, and industry to modernize Vietnamese public higher education in engineering.

The Vocational Training and Education for Clean Energy (VOCTEC) program aims to improve the sustainability of renewable energy infrastructure and investments in developing countries by increasing awareness, knowledge and capacity of local stakeholders, primarily in decentralized clean energy technologies.

Attracting Excellence to AZ

ASU SkySong and its tenant companies have generated more than $460 million in economic impact for the Greater Phoenix area since SkySong’s inception.

Companies that move to the Valley cite Arizona universities as a major attractor in terms of workforce and potential research collaborations. For example, GoDaddy is building a Global Technology Center at the ASU Research Park that will create 300 new jobs.
